The Prime Minister’s remarks came just hours after the United States and Iran announced a peace deal aimed at ending their 107-day conflict in West Asia. The final agreement is expected to be formally signed on Friday in Switzerland.
Earlier, United States President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington and Tehran had finalised a deal to end the war, which had triggered a global energy crisis and disrupted international markets.
Announcing the breakthrough, Trump said the agreement would lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and bring an end to the United States naval blockade on Iranian ports.
“I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and, simultaneously, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump said.
However, Trump later clarified that the Strait of Hormuz would officially reopen on Friday following the signing of the agreement.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi also confirmed that an agreement had been reached. He stated that Tehran would begin implementing the provisions of the deal only after the formal signing ceremony scheduled for Friday.
The breakthrough agreement marks a significant development in efforts to end one of the most consequential conflicts in West Asia in recent months. With the reopening of a critical global trade route and the expected removal of economic and maritime restrictions, the accord is being closely watched for its potential impact on regional stability, international commerce, and global energy markets.
